The Dublin High Coed Varsity Badminton coaching staff selected Junior Co-Captain Deya Liao as the team’s Most Outstanding Player for the shortened 2020 season.
On the court, Deya’s quick and flawless movements immediately stand out as evidenced by her hard work over years of professional badminton training. More impressive however, is her exemplary leadership as she is often seen helping teammates improve or leading drills and conditioning. On weekends, she works as an assistant coach at a private badminton club. Off the court, she has organized many team events, and serves her community as a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente.
During the shelter-in-place order, she continued to inspire by creating and sharing content to help her team members practice and stay in shape at home. In addition to exceling at athletics, she is one of the top performing students academically at Dublin High. The Badminton coaching staff and Dublin High Athletic Department is pleased to recognize Deya for her many achievements.
The Gaels finished the shortened season with a 3-0 record, a mark made even more impressive by the fact that the team only dropped two individual matches during the year. Dublin opened up swept both San Ramon Valley and Clayton Valley 17-0 before defeating Benicia 15-2 in what proved to be the season finale.
In addition to Liao, the Athletic Department would also like to acknowledge the 9 Seniors for helping to finish the year on a high note: Kelly Chen, James Fu, Josh Kwan, Jocelyn Li, Shruti Ramanand, Charvi Sharma, Jotsroop Sidhu, Kenneth Yrreverre, and Ingrid Zhag. Considering that there will be 30 returners on next year’s squad, the undefeated Gaels are poised for more success in the upcoming season.
