California Releases Guidelines for High School Sports

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recently released its guidelines for recreational youth and adult sports and a link to the document can be found here: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/outdoor-indoor-recreational-sports.aspx

In addition to releasing these guidelines, the state announced that it will be “re-assessing” on January 4th, so this is still subject to change. The biggest take-away and most positive element of these new guidelines (if they remain in place after the CDPH “re-assessment”) are that it appears some sports could finally be cleared to compete as early as January 25th (even if Alameda County remains in the purple tier). Other sports would be clear to go as well provided that they were in the appropriate tier by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced start date (or immediately thereafter once the threshold is met). There also remains the distinct possibility that in light of these guidelines, the CIF may adjust its competition calendar to align more realistically with the CDPH tier-based approach. Similar actions may also be in consideration by the North Coast Section (NCS) and the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) depending on circumstances in the coming months.
This whole situation is very fluid, but the Dublin High School Athletics Department will continue to put out general updates and pass along information on this website as details emerge. In the meantime, we encourage you to wear a mask, stay socially distanced, wash your hands, limit your travel, and get the vaccine at the earliest opportunity so that we can collectively beat the pandemic and get back into action.
