The Dublin High School Varsity Wrestling team wrapped up what undoubtedly will go down as one of the most unique in school history in a season where all practices and dual-meets were moved outdoors due to the pandemic.
Dublin’s year finished on a high note as the Gaels defeated Monte Vista on the morning of Saturday, May 8th in a meet that took place outside on the JV Softball field. In addition to being outside, the meet format also took on a unique twist. Rather than adhering to strict weight classes, wrestlers were matched by approximate weight class and for purposes of competitive equity. The format ensured that there were several really close matches, including one that went into overtime. Dublin ended up prevailing over the Mustangs in eight of the 10 matches that took place.
The Gaels also honored three seniors before the dual meet, including Jason Argao, Olivia Fisher, and defending 2020 NCS champion Julian Victoria. Victoria will be continuing his wrestling career in college at William Jewell College in Missouri
