For the second time in three weeks, Brandon Burns returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown to effectively put a game out of reach. Two weeks ago it gave Dublin an insurmountable lead against Liberty, and last Friday his 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown broke the game open by giving the Gaels a 32-3 lead en route to a 39-10 victory at Granada. Burns also hauled in touchdown receptions of 13 and 23 yards respectively, while finishing with four catches and 76 yards.
Quarterback Anthony Armendariz threw for 136 yards and three touchdowns, with his other 5-yard touchdown pass going to T.J. Costello. Costello finished with three receptions and 66 yards. Jayden Petrus accounted for Dublin’s other two touchdowns on scoring runs of 3 yards and 10 yards, while leading the Gaels ground attach with 129 rushing yards.
Defensively, Gary Cabida had another interception and KJ Sweeney and Costello played well at linebacker. Jake Cooney, Raphel Garner, and Josh Lijessen were standouts on both the defensive and offensive line.
With the victory, the 25th ranked Gaels improve to 5-2 overall, and 1-0 in the East Bay Athletic League’s Valley Division. Dublin has a bye on October 15th before its pivotal Homecoming showdown against Foothill on October 22nd which may go a long way towards determining the EBAL Valley Division title.
