Through just the first seven weeks of the 2021 Football season, the Dublin High School Varsity Football team has the remarkable distinction of having four players on its squad earn Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior wide receiver and return specialist Brandon Burns was the latest player to earn Athlete of the Week from West Coast Preps for his three-touchdown performance in a victory at Granada. Burns had touchdown receptions of 13 and 23 yards while returning the second half kickoff 97 yards to put the game out of reach.
Other players on the team who have been selected as Athlete of the Week include tight end T.J. Costello, running back Jayden Petrus, and quarterback Anthony Armendariz. Costello and Petrus were each honored by Tri-Valley Community Television for their dominant performance in Dublin’s victories over Castro Valley and Irvington, while Armendariz received top honors from the Bay Area News Group for his contributions towards the Gaels’ win against Liberty.
The fact that four different players have been honored speaks to the team’s overall balance from a variety of players. Dublin is off to its best start in a decade at 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the East Bay Athletic League’s Valley Division. Following a bye last Friday, the Gaels are gearing up for a pivotal Homecoming showdown against Foothill this Friday, October 22nd. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here.
