The Dublin High Varsity Football team lost its Homecoming game 24-10 against Foothill on October 22nd in front of a packed house at Gaels Stadium. Although the loss will prevent the Gaels from claiming the East Bay Athletic League Valley Division title outright, they are still in excellent position to qualify for the North Coast Section Division II playoffs with victories in their final two games.
Foothill jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Dublin cut it to 7-3 just before halftime on a 21-yard field goal by Jonathan Thalblum. After the Falcons extended their lead to 14-3 following a 40-yard touchdown run, Dublin put their most impressive drive of the night together which culminated in a touchdown pass from Anthony Armendariz to T.J. Costello to bring Dublin back within four at 14-10. Foothill responded with a drive that netted a field goal midway through the fourth quarter, and then put the game away on an 80-yard run by the Falcons quarterback to seal the victory in the final minutes of the contest.
Dublin’s Varsity team drops to 5-3 0verall and 1-1 in the EBAL. The Gaels will travel to face Livermore next Friday, October 29th before finishing the season at home on Senior Night against Dougherty Valley on November 5th. In a positive development, the Junior Varsity team improved to 4-3-1 overall following a 16-3 victory over Foothill.
