Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Volleyball team for their 3-1 victory at home against California in the First Round of the CIF/North Coast Section Division I Championships on October 26th.
The first two sets were both tight throughout before Dublin pulled away late to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Dublin won the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-20. California dominated throughout the 3rd set and won 25-13, and they took control early in the 4th set as it appeared they might be mounting a comeback. The Gaels fought off the Grizzlies charge and came out on top of the 4th set 25-21.
With the victory, the 8th-seeded Gaels advance to face a familiar opponent….the top-seeded Foothill Falcons. Foothill won their first-round match against Liberty 3-0, and will now host Dublin on Saturday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m.. The Gaels and Falcons squared off twice during the regular season, and although Foothill came out on top both times the matches were close. In their first encounter earlier this season at Dublin, the Gaels jumped out to a 2-1 advantage that included a thrilling 35-33 2nd set which the Gaels won. Foothill came back to win the final two sets and come away with the win. Last week, the Falcons prevailed 3-0 but each of the sets were close.
