The Battle for the Shalale and the Senior Night Football game between Dougherty Valley and Dublin takes place at Gaels Stadium tonight. The 25 seniors on the football team will be honored immediately following the Junior Varsity game (around 6:15) and kickoff of the Varsity game is at 7:00. Kickoff for the JV game is at 4:30, and a victory by the Gaels in that affair will give the team a winning record on the season.
Senior members of the Cheer squad, Marching Band, and Color Guard will all be honored in a halftime show where they will giving their final performances of the season. In total, there are 59 additional seniors that will be part of the recognition ceremony.
After losing the Shelale in 2018 when Coach Black was at Dougherty Valley, the Gaels won it back in 2019 with a 39-3 home victory over the Wildcats and then retained it last spring with a 35-0 road win. During the course of the rivalry, the Gaels have defeated Dougherty Valley 9 of 11 seasons. However, there has never been more riding on the contest than tonight, as a likely North Coast Section Division II playoff berth is on the line.
