The Dublin High Varsity Girls Volleyball team received its placement into the CIF Northern California Regional Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Gaels were given the #9 seed in the Division III bracket, and will travel to face #8 Escalon on Tuesday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m.
Escalon comes in with a mark of 29-2 overall and were Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV and Trans Valley League champions, while Dublin comes in at 12-12 overall and finished 6th in the East Bay Athletic League. Despite the apparent difference in those numbers, the Gaels brutal EBAL schedule has helped to prepare them for the postseason, a run which included a major upset victory at NCS #1 seed Foothill followed by another near-upset in the NCS Semifinals at #4 seed Amador Valley.
Ironically, the only common opponent between the two squads happens to be Amador Valley. Escalon dropped a 2-0 decision to Amador Valley in a tournament on October 9th. Dublin lost all 3 of its matches to the Dons, two of them in 4 sets during the regular season and the final one in the NCS Semifinals as it dropped the 5th set 15-13 to lose 3-2.
If Dublin wins, it will advance to face a familiar opponent – Carondelet High School. The Cougars are the top seed after advancing to the Semifinals of the NCS Division II Championships. Dublin and Carondelet split during the regular season, and if they square off in the CIF NorCal Quarterfinals the match will take place at Carondelet on Thursday, November 11th at 6:00 p.m.
