Despite it being a Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Dublin High Athletics had a busy Saturday with multiple teams competing in high-profile events.
The Girls Cross Country team qualified for their first ever CIF State Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno, and were led by Medha Gowda’s time of 19:37 to finish in 20th place among all Division I schools in California. The Boys finished in 8th place at the state meet, making this the 3rd time in the past four years where the squad finished with a Top Ten finish in the state among Division I teams. Daniel Trampe had the fastest time for the Gaels at 15:32. Closer to home, the Boys Basketball team competed in the NorCal Tipoff Classic against the state’s 4th-ranked team (Campolindo), dropping a 50-42 decision in a matchup of two teams likely to contend for an NCS Open Division title.
Looking ahead to the upcoming week, there is a full slate of events as winter sports fully gets underway. Three of our programs have their official home openers on campus starting with our Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys Soccer teams on Tuesday night (November 30th) against Irvington. Coach Morrison’s squad finished the Spring 2021 season undefeated at 4-0-1 and is looking forward to continuing their undefeated streak against the Vikings before hosting Deer Valley on Saturday afternoon (December 4th).
The Dublin’s Girls JV and Varsity Soccer teams has two home matches this week as well on back-to-back days, taking on American on Thursday (December 2nd) followed by a matchup with Kennedy-Fremont on Friday (December 3rd). This week will mark the season opener for the JV squad and will be the first matches on campus in the Stadium for the Varsity team after winning their first two contests at Fallon Sports Park before the Thanksgiving Break.
In addition to Girls Soccer, the Varsity Boys Basketball team will have its official home opener on Friday, December 3rd against Antioch. Although the game against Campolindo was played in the DHS Sports Complex, it was technically a neutral-site contest as it was part of the NorCal Tipoff Classic. The game against the Panthers will be the season opener for the JV team and the final tune-up for the Varsity squad before they head off to defend their crown at the prestigious Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament, an event the Gaels won the last year it was played before the pandemic in December of 2019.
The Varsity Girls Basketball team will be heading to Merced to begin their season at the Golden Valley Tournament, while Wrestling will be traveling to Freedom High School in Oakley on Saturday to participate in the Falcon Shootout. Our JV Girls and Freshmen Boys teams will also be participating in tournaments to cap an active weak of winter sports. Meanwhile, our Varsity Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will be wrapping up a successful season for all of Dublin High’s fall sports as it heads back to Woodward Park for the Nike Cross West Coast Regional Championships.
