Although there likely is no way of knowing definitely, the Dublin High School Varsity Girls Basketball team continued what is likely an unprecedented streak during their 61-22 victory over Mountain House in their home opener on December 8th.
In all four of their games this season, the Gaels have yet to give up a single point in the first quarter. That’s 32 minutes of first quarter basketball played and zero points allowed. Dublin’s defensive dominance throughout but particularly in the opening period has allowed the Gaels to jump out to insurmountable early advantages. On Wednesday, Dublin was able to jump out to a 16-0 lead and didn’t give up their first bucket until 5:24 was left in the 2nd quarter on their way to a 28-7 halftime lead and ultimate a 39-point victory.
The 22 points that Dublin gave up to Mountain House was actually the most points the Gaels have given up all season. Through four games, Dublin has given up a mere 14.5 points per game on average, including an effort in their season opener where they gave up just 8 points. Powered by their stifling defense, the undefeated Gaels (4-0) have an average margin of victory this season of nearly 40 points per game.
Dublin will be back in action at home against San Leandro on Friday, December 10th at 7:00 (Frosh and JV tipping off at 4:00/5:30). Friday’s game will not be available on GaelsTV due to Video Production’s contractual obligations to broadcast the Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament, so those interested in following the action are encouraged to attend in person. Admission is free to all athletic events with a DHS Digital Sports pass and/or an ASB sticker
