After a week which saw all of their contests canceled due to extreme heat, the Dublin High Varsity Girls Golf and Tennis teams each came back from their extended break for East Bay Athletic League victories on Tuesday, September 13th.
Natalie Park helped lead the way for the Girls Golf team by shooting a 41 as the Gaels defeated Granada at Poppy Ridge 240-250. Dublin is back in action on Thursday, September 15th taking on Foothill at their new home course (Dublin Ranch) at 3:30.
The Girls Tennis Team had an impressive 5-4 road win at Carondelet, a team which qualified for the North Coast Section tournament last season. Freshman Maya Peav played #1 Singles and won what proved to be the decisive match. Peav dropped the first set and was staring at a 0-4 deficit in the 2nd set before storming back to win 6-4 and then proceeded to prevail in a dramatic 3rd set tiebreaker 14-12. Niyati Ravi, Soha Ahmed, Alyssa Ma, and Diya Prasanna also posted victories in the Singles line-up to help lift the Gaels to victory. Dublin will look to improve on its 2-0 record as they travel to face San Ramon Valley on Thursday at 4:00.
This past weekend also saw the Cross Country team’s first official race, as both the Varsity Boys and Girls teams finished in 3rd place at the Ed Sias Invitational at Hidden Valley Park in Martinez. Nathan Manesh came in 2nd place overall while Medha Gowda was also a medalist with a 7th place finish. Jeevan Shergill was the individual champion of the Boys Frosh/Soph – JV Overflow race. Dublin will be competing this weekend in the De La Salle Nike Invitational at Newhall Park in Concord, which is the site of the EBAL Championships in November.
In other highlights, the Girls JV and Frosh Volleyball teams remained undefeated after going on the road to sweep Foothill 2-0. The Varsity team had three close games but fell to the Falcons 3-0. Dublin is back in action on Thursday at Granada (4:30/5:30/6:30).
Looking ahead to other upcoming events, the Girls and Boys Water Polo teams will be hosting Monte Vista at The Wave (4:30/5:30) on Thursday, September 15th. Both squads will also be home next Tuesday, September 20th against Livermore at The Wave to make up their contests which were previously postponed due to heat. Football will also be home for a rare Monday night contest on September 19th to play a game that had to be postponed due to a lack of officials. JV kicks off at 4:00 and Varsity kicks off at 6:30.
