Four Basketball Teams Playing for Tournament Titles to Highlight Busy Saturday for DHS Athletics

Four of Dublin’s basketball teams advanced to the championship game in their respective tournaments following victories in their semifinal contests on Friday, December 2nd.

The Gaels’ Varsity Girls Basketball team is looking to defend its crown as champions of the Golden Valley Tournament in Merced after defeating Turlock 49-31. Dublin improved its mark to 2-1 overall and plays this afternoon at 2:30.

All three of Dublin’s Boys Basketball teams advanced out of their semifinal rounds and will be playing for tournament titles today. The most dramatic of those victories came from the JV Boys Basketball team, who went to triple overtime before defeating East Bay Athletic League perennial power De La Salle 69-67. The Freshmen team also knocked off an EBAL opponent by beating Monte Vista 67-55, while the Varsity team posted a big victory against tournament host Mt. Diablo.

In today’s championship action, the Varsity Boys Basketball team will face Pinole Valley at Mt. Diablo High School at 3:30, the JV team will be facing Mountain House at Freedom at 2;30, while the Freshmen team will square off against Valley Christian of San Jose at Ygnacio Valley at 1:30.

Other highlights in Dublin High Athletics on a very busy Saturday include this season’s Cross Country finale and Wrestling debut. In Cross Country, top returners are running in the Champs Sports West Regionals at Mt. San Antonio College. In Wrestling, the Varsity team will be participating in the Falcon Shootout at Freedom and the JV participating in the Colt Classic at James Logan. The lone home action will be a JV Boys Soccer Match at 6:00 against Heritage. In other action, JV Girls Basketball team will play Foothill in a battle for 3rd place at the Mission San Jose Tournament, while the Frosh Boys Soccer team travels to face Las Lomas at 3:00.
