The Dublin High School Varsity Boys Basketball used some strong pressure defense and an attacking offense in transition to score 30 1st quarter points en route to a 98-33 opening round win over Fairfield in the 17th Annual Don Nelson Classic (DNC).
Mehki Thomas scored 15 points and Donovan Cooks had 14 to lead host Dublin to a rout of Fairfield in the opening round of the Don Nelson Classic. Courtney Anderson and Isaiah Wong each had nine points for Dublin (6-3).
With the victory, Dublin improves to 6-3 overall on the season and will advance to face Castro Valley in the Semifinals of the DNC. The Trojans defeated Heritage 65-47 and will face Dublin in the Sports Complex on Friday, December 16th at 8:00.
In the other half of the bracket, Placer remained undefeated after beating California and Foothill-Palo Cedro defeated Las Lomas. The winner of that contest will face the winner of the Dublin-Castro Valley game for the DNC Championship on Saturday, December 17th at 7:00.
The Dublin High Junior Varsity and Freshmen Basketball teams also won their opening round tournament contests. The JV team defeated Redwood Christian to set up a rematch against Liberty in the semifinals of the San Lorenzo Tournament tonight at 8:30. Dublin defeated Liberty by one point on its way to winning the Freedom Tournament in early December. In the Washington Frosh Boys Tournament, Dublin knocked off Gunn to advance to Friday’s semifinals (6:30).
