The annual “Silent Night” Varsity Boys Basketball game will be held this Friday night (January 13th) at 7:30 p.m. against Monte Vista in the Sports Complex. This year’s event has a bit of a twist, as the crowd is only being asked to be “silent” until the Gaels score their 6th point (not 10) in honor of the “6th Man” Gael Force.
Dublin High has moved to cashless admission, and although a QR code will be available at the door, fans are encouraged to purchase tickets online ahead of time. Admission is free to all athletic events with a DHS Digital Sports pass and/or an ASB sticker. Otherwise, the cost is $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults. For those purchasing tickets, the Dublin High School GoFan page for all events is here.
The Gaels come into the game with a 12-6 record overall and 1-0 East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) record following their 89-34 road win at Livermore in their league opener on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Monte Vista comes in with an overall record of 14-3 and a lot of momentum following their 57-50 victory over De La Salle in their EBAL opener. Dublin squared off with the Mustangs in two memorable contests last season, as the Gaels escaped with a close win on the road and a come-from-behind win in the EBAL Tournament.
In other scheduling news, make-up dates and times have been announced for two contests that were postponed last week due to weather conditions and related issues.
The Girls Basketball teams will be making up their home tripleheader against Foothill that was postponed on January 4th and will now be playing the Falcons on Thursday, January 19th (Frosh – 4:30, JV – 6:00, Varsity – 7:30). The Boys Soccer matches at Monte Vista that was originally scheduled last Thursday night (January 5th) will now take place as a matinee on Saturday, February 4th with the Varsity match taking place at 11:00 a.m. followed by the JV match at 1:00 p.m.
Finally, in an exciting development, Dublin High will be hosting its first ever Girls Wrestling Dual meet. Although the program has boasted of female wrestlers for decades, the popularity has grown to such an extent in recent years that Dublin can now field a full squad and will be competing as a separate Girls team in the upcoming EBAL and North Coast Section tournaments. In preparation for those events, the Gaels will be hosting Castro Valley on Wednesday, January 25th with the JV meet at 6:00 followed by the Varsity meet at 7:00.
