In front of a raucous crowd on Silent Night, the Dublin Varsity Boys Basketball team pulled off an impressive 63-46 victory over Monte Vista.
The Mustangs came in as the 15th-ranked team in the Bay Area but had upset 3rd-ranked De La Salle on Tuesday to improve to 14-3 coming into the contest. Yet Dublin’s rebounding along with a run late in the 3rd quarter proved to be decisive as the 11th-ranked Gaels improved to 13-6 overall (2-0 in East Bay Athletic League action).
With Dublin up 41-33, the Gaels went on an 8-0 in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter to put the game away.
Donovan Cooks’ 3-pointer from the deep corner spun around the rim and dropped in. Courtney Anderson Jr. proceeded to block a shot, and then drove through heavy traffic to score and converted a 3-point play after being fouled. Jalen Stokes followed with another basket in the paint with a put-back to finish the run and put the Gaels up 49-33. The Mustangs never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Stokes led Dublin with 16 points. Anderson and Mehki Thomas each finished with 13. The Junior Varsity and Freshmen teams also won to improve their records to 15-3 overall.
Dublin will be at home on Tuesday, January 17th to face 7th-ranked California, which beat No. 2 San Ramon Valley on Friday. After playing California, Dublin will visit De La Salle next Friday, January 20th.
