It has been another wild week of East Bay Athletic League competition for the Dublin High Boys and Girls Basketball and Soccer teams. The week concludes with Senior Nights for Girls Soccer and Boys Basketball and also includes a special Dance Camp and performance serving as culminating events to highlight a very busy Saturday (January 28th).
Coming off of a hard-fought come-from-behind 79-75 victory at San Ramon Valley on Tuesday, Dublin’s Varsity Boys Basketball team overcame a slow start and ultimately prevailed on the road over Amador Valley 56-48. Courtney Anderson Jr. scored 19 points and Mehki Thomas and Donovan Cooks each had 15 to lead the Gaels.
While the Boys Basketball team is fighting for seeding in the upcoming EBAL Tournament, the Dublin Varsity Girls Soccer team is fighting for a North Coast Section playoff spot in another home event on Saturday with postseason implications. The Gaels (4-5-4) managed to get a point in a 0-0 tie on the road against a very strong Monte Vista squad (5-2-5) on Thursday to stay within striking distance of earning an NCS bid.
The Senior Night festivities for the Girls Soccer team will take place on Saturday at 5:30 and will be followed by their match against Granada at 6:00. The Varsity Boys Basketball Senior Night ceremony will take place at around 7:15 with tip-off scheduled for 7:30. Dublin (16-7, 5-1) also plays host to Granada (16-6, 3-3) on Saturday a game featuring two of the Bay Area’s top 10 teams.
In other action this Thursday, the Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer teams both suffered heart-breaking defeats at home. Soha Ahmad hit 6 three-pointers but it wasn’t enough as the short-handed Gaels suffered a narrow 44-41 home loss to Amador Valley. The Boys Soccer team has also been dealing with its share of injuries and put up a valiant effort against one of EBAL’s top teams (Monte Vista) before losing 1-0.
Both teams will be back in action on the road on Saturday as both teams travel to face Granada. The Girls Basketball team tips off at 5:00 and the Boys Soccer team kicks off at 6:00. Wrestling will also be on the mat this Saturday with the Varsity team participating in a tournament at Livermore High and the JV team competing in a tournament at Dougherty Valley
