For what is possibly the first time in school history, Dublin High School is gearing up to host the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Wrestling Championships this weekend (February 10-11). The Junior Varsity tournament is on Friday starting at 4:00, while the Varsity tournament is on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
This year’s EBAL Tournament will also feature its first ever Girls Division, and given the size and strength of Dublin’s Girls team it provides a great opportunity for many of them to qualify for next weekend’s North Coast Section tournament. Action will take place in both the Sports Complex and Auxiliary Gym. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased here.
In other action this week, the Dublin High Girls and Boys Soccer teams ended the year on a positive note.
The Girls battled back from injuries and a string of close matches ending in ties or narrow defeats to notch a 2-0 road victory at Dougherty Valley. For a squad that only had four seniors on its roster this season, the future looks bright for the Gaels.
The future also looks bright for the Boys program after giving Dougherty Valley all it could handle before coming away with a hard-fought 1-1 tie on Senior Night. The Wildcats needed a win or tie against the Gaels to come away with an EBAL title, and Dublin certainly gave them some anxious moments before earning the point they needed to finish in 1st place. Since Dublin defeated Dougherty Valley 2-1 last season, they do retain the coveted Stone Leaf Trophy despite the tie.
In Boys Basketball action on Wednesday, Dublin fell to Granada in the EBAL Tournament 79-69 to finish the regular season with a record of 18-9. The Gaels now await the determination of the NCS Seeding Committee on whether they will be placed in the Open Division or play in the Division I Tournament. The tournament bracket and information on the Gaels’ 1st Round opponent will be posted on Sunday.
