After defeating Amador Valley in two close matches during the regular season, the Gaels and Dons were locked in another tight battle tied at 10-10 midway through the 1st set of their North Coast Section (NCS) Division 1 Semifinal match. Unfortunately for the Gaels, All-League Setter Travis Clemons went down at that point with an ankle injury, and Amador Valley was able to pull away with a 25-19, 25-16, 27-25 victory.
Despite the loss, it was the best season for the Gaels since 2001 when they won an NCS title. In addition, the 21-6 overall record was the most wins posted by Dublin in school history, and this was also the first time in school history in which the Boys Volleyball program posted back-to-back postseason victories as Dublin defeated Liberty in last year’s 1st Round and American in this year’s Quarterfinals.
Although the Gaels will miss two of their leading contributors in Kevin Zsu and Ashtonn Florentin, there will be several key returners from Varsity along with the return of players from the league’s top Junior Varsity squad, so the future of the program is definitely bright.
Another program building a legacy of success is the Baseball program. After finishing the regular season with its best overall record (16-8) since winning NCS back in 2006, the Gaels earned the 9th seed in the upcoming Division 1 playoffs. Dublin will play a neutral site game against #8 seed Liberty at Pittsburg High School on Tuesday, May 16th at 5:00. If the Gaels win, their next opponent will likely be #1 seed De La Salle, a team which Dublin defeated earlier this year.
