Dublin High School Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Nakisha Harris as the first Head Coach of the Girls Flag Football program, which will be having its inaugural season in the Fall of 2023. She has been a member of the Dublin High community for 7 years as a Criminal Justice teacher, football coach, and softball coach.
Coach Harris began her football coaching journey at a high school in the Sacramento area, where she was the first Black woman to coach high school football. Her coaching efforts inspired her to play semi-professional tackle football. She competed in the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) with the Sacramento Sirens for 5 seasons. She was a team captain and IWFL all-star (2012) and played middle linebacker, running back, and quarterback. Coach Harris earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Sacramento State and Master of Education degree from Holy Names University in 2022.
“I am elated and humbled with this opportunity,” said Coach Harris. “To see high school football for girls, specifically, be actualized at a time that I can have direct involvement in the development and growth is something I have envisioned for years. I look forward to working with the girls and families in this community to create a football culture that is equitable, inclusive, and inspiring.”
