Dublin High School Athletics is pleased to announce that Greg Oravetz has been named as the new Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Dublin High School. Coach Oravetz has been a fixture with various roles for many years, most recently serving as Associate Head Varsity Coach under Ed Dean for the past six years until Coach Dean announced his retirement from that role in August.
The journey to Coach Oravetz ascending to the Head Varsity coaching position began with an outstanding playing career for the Gaels that culminated with an appearance in the North Coast Section (NCS) Championship game. Oravetz went on to have a successful career in college, winning conference championships as a player for Ohlone, Chabot, and later Mayville State in North Dakota. During his time at Mayville State, Oravetz was selected as an All-Conference pitcher and would later serve as a pitching coach upon graduation.
After returning to his hometown roots of Dublin following his time in North Dakota, Oravetz started with the Dublin program as a pitching coach in 2009. He assumed the role of Associate Head Coach in 2018, and has had numerous accomplishments.
During the period which Coach Oravetz worked under Coach Dean, the Gaels have compiled an overall record of 57-43-1 and have qualified for the NCS playoffs the past 3 seasons they were conducted (2019, 2022, 2023). There are 14 players within the Baseball program in the past 6 years who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, including 5 who have played Division I. Coach Oravetz has also worked tirelessly to build up the Baseball class offered at the school, along with numerous camps and clinics both internally as well with for the entire community.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone as accomplished and experienced as Greg Oravetz become our next Head Varsity Baseball Coach following the exceptional work of Coach Dean,” said Dublin High Athletic Director Tim Sbranti. “The positivity and tireless work ethic that Coach Oravetz models everyday are the embodiment of the values we seek to instill in our student-athletes, and we are excited for the future of the program under his leadership.”
In addition to his role as Head Varsity Baseball Coach, Oravetz is also the Lead Teacher for Dublin High School’s Physical Education Department, and has six years of coaching experience at the Junior Varsity and Varsity level for the Football program. He is happily married and lives with his wife and children in Dublin.
