Girls Golf Wins Antioch Tourney, Football Begins EBAL, Fall Sports Roundup

The Dublin High School Varsity Girls Golf Tournament had an outstanding performance at the Antioch Tournament, as Sophia Lee, Callie McLoughlin, and Jayden Simoneau finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively, helping to lead the Gaels to a Tournament championship. As a team, Dublin shot 447 in the event at the Lone Tree Golf Course despite having a pre-dawn 6:00 a.m. tee time!

The combination of Dublin winning a tournament title combined with a strong showing in East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) dual matches means that it is likely that the Gaels will earn a bid into the North Coast Section (NCS) team tournament in late October. Dublin finishes its regular season this week against Livermore at Wente today and concludes at its home course Dublin Ranch on Thursday, October 12th at 3:30 against Dougherty Valley.

While the Girls Golf team wraps up EBAL action, the Football team is just starting EBAL play. Dublin’s Varsity team lost its opener 21-14 at Granada on October 6th, coming back from a 14-0 deficit behind two touchdown passes from Jack Duncan to Garrett Esomonu before giving up the game-winning touchdown with just 0:32 remaining. The Junior Varsity team also lost, as both the Varsity and JV teams fall to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in EBAL. Dublin’s Freshmen team defeated the Matadors 30-6 to improve to 6-1, 1-0.

The Football teams will finally get a break after 7 consecutive games (the last 5 on the road) this weekend before returning to the field on October 19-20. The Freshmen team will have its final home game against Livermore on Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 at Gaels Stadium, while the JV and Varsity teams will travel to face the Cowboys on Friday, October 20th (4:30/7:00). Dublin’s JV and Varsity teams finally return home on October 27th for its Homecoming game v. Amador Valley, and concludes its season on November 3rd against Dougherty Valley for Senior Night.

Speaking of Senior Nights, the first of eight Senior Nights took place on October 3rd as Girls Flag Football hosted Granada. The Gaels celebrated its program’s inaugural senior class, including Sydney Costello, Angelina Gomes, Morgan DiBiase, Ashley Freitas, Lavenda Hafoka, Lily Charlton, Morgan Overton, and AJ Avelar. Dublin will have a final make-up home game on Wednesday, October 11th against Livermore at 3:45.

Other teams with home events this week are all taking place on Thursday, October 12th, including Boys and Girls Water Polo, Girls Tennis, and Girls Volleyball. The Girls Tennis team will be hosting San Ramon Valley (4:0), the Water Polo teams will be hosting Amador Valley at The Wave (Boys – 4:30, Girls – 5:30), and Girls Volleyball will be hosting Monte Vista (4:30/5:30/6:30).
