The Dublin High Boys and Girls Water Polo teams just completed their first ever full season playing at the Varsity level as the Gaels hosted Dougherty Valley for their season finale at The Wave Aquatics Complex. Each team recorded the milestones of notching their program’s first ever victories while enjoying success during the nonleague portions of their schedules. Despite ongoing challenges in the highly competitive East Bay Athletic League (EBAL), the Girls team finishing 7-4 again non-EBAL teams while the Boys went 5-4 outside of EBAL.
Four founding memories of the Water Polo programs were recognized on Senior Night – Kylo Fukazawa, Armaan Shah, and Michael Leung from the Boys team along with Zoe Esquivel from the Girls team. Zoe was given the additional honor by Varsity Girls Head Coach Emily Hurd of having her #13 retired by the program for her contributions over the past two years. The Girls finished the season strong, nearly defeating Granada in the final weeks before winning their final two games of the season, including their first ever EBAL victory 20-1 over Dougherty Valley on Thursday, October 26th.
The Varsity Girls Tennis team also notched a victory over Dougherty Valley in its season finale, defeating the Wildcats in dramatic fashion to clinch an EBAL Valley Division title. Dublin’s #1 doubles pair Sehej Sondh/Khloe Tan won in straight sets, while Maya Peav, Kashvi Ravi, and Alyssa Ma were all victorious to pull the team match to 4-4 before Niyati Ravi won a 3rd set tiebreaker 11-9 to win the 5th and decisive match.
With the victory, Dublin finished the season 10-3 and champions of the EBAL Valley Division, the first ever league title in the history of the program. The Division title gives the Gaels an automatic berth into the North Coast Section playoffs, the team’s first appearance since 2004 and only the second in school history.
