For the 6th time in 7 years, the Dublin High School Boys Cross Country team claimed another North Coast Section championship after winning the Division 1 crown at Hayward High School on November 18th.
It initially appeared as if Berkeley would come in 1st place after claiming three of the top 6 finishes, but the Gaels’ depth proved to be the decisive factor. Aidan Stone was Dublin’s top finisher coming in 4th place, followed by Tunish Zatshi in 9th place and then Aiden Dube (12th), Justin Feng (13th), and Rahul Dutta (14th) in quick succession to edge out California (2nd), Dougherty Valley (3rd), and Berkeley (4th) to bring home the title.
The 1st place finish was even more remarkable considering that the Gaels finished behind the Grizzlies and Wildcats just two weeks prior at the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Championship meet. By virtue of its 1st place finish, the entire team will advance to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Meet on November 25th at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Although the Dublin Girls’ team didn’t advance as a group to the CIF Meet after its 4th place finish, Sabrina Noriega finished in 3rd place and Melia Prenton came in 7th place to qualify as individuals for the State Championships.
The dynasty that has become Dublin High Cross Country was also on full display last Saturday based on the accomplishments of former Gael runners in the program.
Class of 2019 graduate Loic Scomparin ran at the NCAA Division 2 nationals and earned his 7th (SEVENTH!) All-American honor taking 8th, class of 2020 graduate Christopher Middleton-Pearson’s Oklahoma State team WON the NCAA title, and class of 2022 graduate Daniel Trampe helped lead Chabot College to a 6th place finish at the State Community College Championships, the highest finish for the Gladiators in school history.
