There is no doubt that the Dublin High School Cross Country team is peaking at exactly the right time, as the Gaels’ runners are saving their best performances for the season’s biggest meets. Coming off of a North Coast Section Meet that saw the Boys win their 6th title in 7 seasons with the Girls sending two additional qualifiers to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Meet, Dublin continued to excel.
Specifically, 9 runners ran in the CIF State Meet…..and all 9 runners set personal records! This is a remarkable accomplishment, and wish most of the runners coming back there is a strong belief that the Gaels will do even better next season. Dublin will officially conclude its season this Saturday, December 2nd at the Foot Locker West Regional at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
While the Cross Country season winds down to draw the fall athletic season to a close, the Winter Sports season officially ramps up this week with several home openers.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team has its official home opener on Tuesday, November 28th against Newark Memorial at 7:00, while the Varsity Girls Basketball team will have its home opener on Friday, December 1st against San Leandro (7:00). Both teams lost their season’s inaugural game against stiff competition at college showcase events on Saturday. The Boys led for most of the game before falling to St. Ignatius-SF 63-54 in the NorCal Tip-Off Classic (officially a neutral site game even though it was played at Dublin), while the Girls lost a 62-60 nail-biter to perennial powerhouse St. Mary’s-Berkeley 620-60 at the Pinole Valley Shootout.
The Varsity Boys Soccer team opens up its season with a home match against Alameda on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:30. This will not only be the season-opener, but also the first match of the “Winter Soccer Classic”, which is a preseason tournament spread throughout a 2.5-week period at sites throughout the East Bay. Dublin will continue with tournament action on Saturday, December 2nd at Heritage (11:30 a.m.).
Dublin High School’s Girls Wrestling Team will also be at home to conclude an exciting week of events this Saturday, December 2nd as it hosts the inaugural “Gaels Showdown”. The Gaels Showdown is a Junior Varsity/Varsity Girls Wrestling Tournament featuring 23 schools and hundreds of wrestlers. The action will take place in both the Sports Complex and Auxiliary Gym starting at 9:00 a.m.
The Gaels Showdown is a major fundraiser for the program as a whole an an opportunity to build up girls’ wrestling specifically. Tickets to the special event are $10 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, and free with ASB.
