Dublin High School’s Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams are off to what is believed to be the hottest combined start in school history after each team won both of its contests last week in convincing fashion.
The Boys posted two large home wins, knocking off Kennedy-Fremont 92-53 on December 19th and Willow Glen of San Jose 77-44 on December 22nd. In the win over Kennedy, the Gaels actually trailed 25-23 midway through the 2nd quarter before going on a 26-6 run to close the half en route to the victory. Similarly, the Girls were down for much of the first half before finishing strong and defeating Vintage of Napa 66-35 on December 20th, and then went on the road to beat West of Tracy 65-33.
After victories this week, the Boys Basketball team is now 10-1 overall and winners of 10 straight, while the Girls Basketball team is 8-1 overall and winners of 8 straight. Each team dropped opening contests in showcase events on November 25th, and have been unbeaten since. The Gaels hope their recent momentum carries them through against stiff competition in upcoming holiday tournaments.
The Boys will travel to Southern California to compete in the prestigious Gold Division of the Damien Classic in LaVerne. Dublin’s opening contest will be against Redondo Union at the Damien Event Center on Wednesday, December 27th at 12:30.
Closer to home, Dublin High School will be one of the premier host sites of the West Coast Jamboree. The Gaels are in the Pearl Division and will be opening up against Cosumnes Oaks on Thursday, December 28th at 12:00 in the Sports Complex. Action will take place in both gyms throughout the 3-day tournament which runs form December 28-30. In addition to Dublin’s own Pearl Division, the highest level Platinum Division games will also be played at Dublin High School, along with several championship games form other Divisions on the final day.
