The East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) will launch its Boys and Girls Basketball and Soccer Seasons TONIGHT (Tuesday, January 9th) with Dublin opening up against Livermore. All four Dublin High Varsity teams enter league play with winning records and are expected to be competitive this season.
Events taking place at Dublin High TONIGHT include Girls Soccer (4:00 – JV, 6:00 – Varsity) and Boys Basketball (4:30 – Frosh, 6:00 – JV, 7:30 – Varsity). The Varsity Boys Basketball game will be the annual “Silent Night” game where students get in for free and prizes are awarded. Fans are encouraged to stay silent until the Gaels score their 10th point, and then burst into sustained loud cheering throughout the night. A large crowd is expected and fans are encouraged to arrive early.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team finished its nonleague schedule with a mark of 14-3 overall following a 69-58 road win at the Bay Area’s 17th ranked team (Ygnacio Valley) on Friday night. Isaiah Wong was the leading scorer with 20 points, Jalen Stokes finished with 17 points, and Evan Bautista added 16. The Girls Soccer team is coming into EBAL with an overall mark of 3-2-1. In their most recent contest, the Gaels were trailing James Logan 1-0 until scoring a goal midway through the second half to forge a tie.
For those who are unable to attend tonight oe any home event in the Stadium or Sports Complex, they can follow the live-stream for free on the Athletics’ YouTube channel “Dublin Gaels Live.”
Teams going on the road TONIGHT to face the Cowboys are the Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer. The Boys Soccer team comes into EBAL with a lot of momentum following two wins last week (1-0 over Heritage and 3-1 over American) to improve their record to 5-3-2. The Girls Basketball team has also had a lot of success thus far, as they have already equaled last season’s entire win total (10) following a 51-40 home win against Bethel last Wednesday.
In addition to the Varsity teams’ recent success, there has also been a lot of success at the lower levels. Dublin High’s JV Girls Soccer team enters league play undefeated at 7-0-1, while the JV Boys Soccer team is 7-2-1. The Gaels’ JV and Frosh Boys Basketball teams have also had a lot of success, as they each have won preseason tournaments (Acalanes and Aragon).
