Girls Soccer in Position for NCS Bid, EBAL Basketball Home Doubleheader Set for TONIGHT

The regular season has concluded and both the Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams earned home games for the East Bay Athletic League playoffs, while the Girls Soccer team is in excellent position to earn a bid to the North Coast Section playoffs.

After opening round byes, Dublin’s basketball teams will be hosting Amador Valley on Tuesday, February 6th with the Girls tipping off against the Dons at 5:30 and the Boys game starting at 7:00. The Girls lost their previous encounter with Amador Valley 49-48, while the Boys overcame a 3rd quarter deficit by limiting the Dons to just 20 points in the second half en route to a 67-57 win in the teams’ previous contest earlier this year.

Dublin’s Girls’ Basketball team finished the season on a high note after defeating rival Dougherty Valley 51-39 on Friday night and the posting a 56-45 win over Granada on Senior Day. The Gaels finished the regular season 15-11 overall, making this the 20th time in the past 20 years that the Gaels have finished with a winning record. Meanwhile, Dublin’s Boys’ Basketball team finished with its 13th consecutive winning season at 19-7 overall, which is the longest ongoing streak among all athletic programs on campus.

The Dublin Girls’ Soccer team also finished with some positive momentum by going on the road to defeat Dougherty Valley 2-1 in their season finale. It was a must-win match for the Gaels as they needed a win to get their overall record to an even .500, a feat necessary to be considered for a North Coast Section playoff bid. The Gaels finished 5-5-5 overall, but given their strength of schedule and wins over other league champions such as Heritage (BVAL), it is very likely they will be in the playoffs once the bracket is released on Sunday.

In Boys Soccer, although Dublin didn’t qualify for NCS, the Gaels did finish the season with a solid 2-0 road win at Napa. The Gaels also had a 1-1 tie against California in match in which it led the Grizzlies until the waning moments.
