Girls LAX and Baseball Off to Fast Start, Updates to Schedule, Boys Basketball Wrap-Up

As we enter the first full week of March, the Winter Sports season has just concluded and the Spring Sports season is completely underway. The Dublin High Girls Lacrosse and Baseball teams have looked particularly impressive in the early going, while the Boys Basketball team wrapped up another great season.

The Girls LAX team edged past Palo Alto 10-9 in their season opener, and then rebounded from a loss to Piedmont to defeat Las Lomas 15-10 under blistery conditions last Friday to start the season 2-1 overall. Another team starting the season 2-1 was Baseball, with a 6-0 shutout victory over San Leandro and 8-2 win over Wilcox sandwiched around a loss to Valley Christian-San Jose.

Dublin’s Softball team has also started the season on a winning note, shutting out Alameda 2-0 in their only contest thus far. Weather has been a factor for them in the early going, as they had a game at Arroyo postponed and several practices canceled. Similarly, the Baseball team had games against Archbishop Mitty and Irvington postponed, and there have been several cancellations and postponements at the Varsity level as well.

Other teams have been have change of venue for other circumstances, including Boys Volleyball. After defeating Irvington 2-1 to close out the East County Tournament, they were slated to have their East Bay Athletic League opener on Tuesday, March 5th in the Sports Complex at 6:00. However, that match will now be taking place in the Auxiliary Gym due to the fact that Granada and San Ramon Valley will be playing for the CIF Northern California Division 1 Championship in the Complex at 7:00.

In addition to Boys Volleyball, the Auxiliary Gym will also play host to Dublin’s Badminton match against Foothill on Thursday, March 9th at 4:00. The Gaels enter the week 1-1 after defeating Quarry Lane 12-5 and dropping a narrow 8-9 contest to Amador Valley. The other teams who will be home this week is Swim, as they host California at the Wave Aquatics Complex on Friday, March 8th at 4:00, while Track and Field hosts the EBAL Invitational Center Meet which starts on Saturday, March 9th at 9:00 a.m.

Teams which have started the season against particularly stiff competition include Boys Golf and Boys Lacrosse. Each team faced two of the toughest teams in the state, with Boys Golf falling to Amador Valley and Boys Lacrosse being defeated by De LA Salle. The Boys Tennis team starts its season on Tuesday at Monte Vista with the Stunt Cheer season starting with Dublin’s one and only home competition on March 12th.

As 11 teams ramp up their season, the final Winter Sports team still competing wrapped up its season this week. After qualifying for its 7th consecutive CIF State Basketball tournament, the Gaels fell to #1 seed Clovis West 79-57 on Tuesday night. Dublin was up 14 points at one point in the first half and went into halftime still up by 8 at 38-30, but Clovis West went on a run at the start of the 3rd quarter and remained hot for the entire 2nd half to pull away with the win.
