The Dublin High Softball team overcame a 4-2 deficit by scoring the final 7 runs of the game en route to a 9-4 road win under threatening skies at Dougherty Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
Dublin began its comeback in the top of the 4th inning thanks to a fielder’s choice by Sydney Salazar and a sacrifice fly by Sydney Costello which tied the game. The Gaels then exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 6th, with the biggest blow coming off of a double by Tanaya Barrett which drove in two runs. Kelly Maggiora pitched four scoreless innings in relief for Dublin to earn the win, surrendering just three hits.
As a team, Dublin’s lineup tallied 10 hits led by Caitlyn Burgess who went 3-for-3. Kensington Abrew was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI while Barrett also finished with two hits to help lead the Gaels.
With the victory, Dublin improved to 4-3 overall as it gets set to host Livermore TODAY at 4:00. Weather permitting, Dublin will participate in the Napa Tournament this weekend (March 29-30).
The one major home event taking place on campus on Wednesday was Dublin’s Track and Field Meet against Granada and Amador Valley. Dublin’s next home meets will take place on April 17th against De La Salle and Carondelet (4:00).
One team which wasn’t so fortunate to get their game in was the Varsity Boys team. Some late afternoon showers forced the postponement of their scheduled home contest against Foothill. The game will now be made up on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m., while the squad hopes to be able to get in its scheduled game at Foothill this afternoon (4:00).
