It was an incredibly exciting week for Dublin High Athletics as the Softball team swept its final games to close the regular season, the Baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive, and the Hockey team punched its ticket to the championship.
The Softball team’s hit parade continued as they scored double-digits in both of its home games, posting convincing wins over Foothill and Dougherty Valley to finish the regular season with an overall record of 13-7-1. Tuesday’s game against the Falcons saw the Gaels battle back from an early 3-0 deficit, going on top 5-4 by the 4th inning before breaking it open with 5 runs in the 5th inning to post a 10-4 victory. The week was capped with a 12-1 win over the Wildcats that was called after 5 innings. This was Dublin’s best season since 2019, and the Gaels are almost certain to have secured a bid into the North Coast Section playoffs when they are announced on May 11th.
The Baseball team still has some work to do in order to qualify for postseason eligibility, but they do have some momentum after a dramatic come-from-behind win over Dougherty Valley in their East Bay Athletic League finale. Dublin was trailing 4-1 entering the 6th inning but scored 2 runs in the bottom half of the frame and two more in the 7th inning to walk it off 5-4. Brendan Moddelmog hit the game-winning single to knock in the winning runs. Despite the fact that the Gaels have an overall record under .500 at 10-13, Dublin’s strength of schedule and quality wins has them list in the top 16 among North Coast Section Division 1 teams according to Maxpreps. With a win at home against Irvington on Senior Day (Monday, May 6th at 4:30), the Gaels will have a .500 record in Division 1 and will be eligible for consideration by the seeding committee.
Unlike the Softball and Baseball teams, one squad that does not need to wait on a committee to become aware of its fate is the Hockey team. Dublin avenged an early season 6-2 loss to Granada to defeat the Matadors 7-3 in the Semifinals of the Tri-Valley Hockey playoffs. Russell Louie tallied 2 goals, while William Wadington had 1 goal and 4 assists, and Jonathan Adrian had 1 goal and 2 assists to lead a balanced offensive attack.
The Tri-Valley Hockey Championship game will take place on Monday, May 13th at 8:00 p.m. at Dublin Iceland. Dublin will face the winner of the other semifinal contest taking place between De La Salle and Amador Valley
