For the third year in a row, Dublin High School is poised to host the North Coast Section (NCS) Meet of Champions, a prestigious event with a history dating back more than 100 years.
The NCS Meet of Champions is one of the few events where students from all divisions regardless of geography or enrollment compete against each other. The top three finishers in each event will automatically qualify for next weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Meet. In order to make it to the Meet of Champions, participants had to qualify through an NCS regional competition. For Dublin, that meant competing in last weekend’s NCS Tri-Valley Meet which comprised of schools within the Valley Conference (East Bay Athletic League, Bay Valley Athletic League, and Diablo Athletic League).
Dublin Junior Emma San was one of the top performers in last weekend’s event, as she finished in first place in the Girls Triple Jump. Emma will aim to win place place in the Meet of Champions in Friday night’s event (May 17th) which starts at 6:30. Other Dublin High athletes looking to punch their ticket to the CIF State Meet on Friday afternoon include Preston Chiu in the Boys Triple Jump (3:30), Miranda Howeth and Sinnie Huo in the Girls Pole Vault (5:00). Friday evening’s action will be highlighted by the Finals in the Boys and Girls 4×800 Relays, as the teams of Alessandra Yu, Josephine Bayer, Sasha Johnson, and Melia Prenton (Girls) along with Tristan Gan, Mayank Kumar, Won Choi, and Tanish Zutshi (Boys) will be running in Finals taking place at 8:18/8:34 respectively.
Preliminary action on Friday will also include the Girls 4×100 Relay team of Angelica Gomes, Aaliyah Hasni, Kathryn Chee, and Naeemah Grant-Gurganious at 4:30, Aidan Stone in the Boys 1600 (5:16), Aaron Adamos and Nathaniel Maddox in the Boys 110 Hurdles (5:44), Angelica Gomes in the Girls 400 (5:56), Joshua Arevalo in the Boys 400 (6:02), Aaron Adamos in the Boys 300 Hurdles (7:38), Angelica Gomes in the Girls 200 (7:50). The night will include with the Preliminary in the Girls and Boys 4×400 Relays, as Angelica Gomes, Kayci Phillips, Ria Inamadar, and Jolie Umene will run at 8:48 followed by Bryce Boyd, Logan Lane, Robert Davis, and Joshua Arevalo at 9:12.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s action, Emma San will compete in the Girls Long Jump starting at 3:30 while Matthew Loo will compete in the Boys Pole Vault starting at 5:00. The full Day 2 program with names and times of those who advanced out of Friday’s Prelims can be found at www.diablotiming.com
