Athletics Recap: Football Posts Shutout, Girls Tennis and Golf Off to a Hot Start

The Varsity Football team went on the road last Friday, September 27th and posted its first victory of the season, shutting out Freedom High School of Oakley 16-0. Dublin’s stifling defense actually produced the first points of the game on safety, and then the Gaels balanced offensive attack produced two more touchdowns in the first half to seal the victory. In addition to the Varsity team’s win, the Freshmen Football team improved to 3-1 overall with its own shutout win by a score of 40-0.

Dublin’s Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will be back in action this Friday, October 4th with the JV game starting at 4:30 and Varsity kicking off at 7:15. Admission is free to all athletic events with a DHS Digital Sports pass and/or an ASB sticker. For those purchasing tickets, the Dublin High School GoFan page for all events is here. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior-citizens attending Friday night’s JV/Varsity doubleheader. For those unable to attend, the games will be live-streamed on the Dublin High Athletics YouTube channel “Dublin Gaels Live.”

Last week also saw the first full week for the Varsity Girls Tennis team, as the Gaels posted 8-1 victories over both California and Granada. Dublin is coming off of its first league title in school history after winning the East Bay Athletic League Valley Division last season. The Gaels’ matches this week against San Ramon Valley and Livermore have been postponed due to heat, but Dublin is still tentatively slated to host Carondelet on Thursday, October 3rd. Dublin will now play at Livermore on October 7th and will host San Ramon Valley on October 14th.

Another team whose schedule has been disrupted by the heat is the Varsity Girls Golf team. The Gaels’ match against Monte Vista scheduled today has been cancelled, and the results from a selected 9-hold portion of the EBAL League tournament will count as today’s score. The Gaels are 6-2 overall on the season and will be back in action on Thursday, October 3rd at Las Positas College against Granada (weather permitting).

Other teams posting wins last week include Varsity Girls Volleyball over Livermore and Varsity Girls Water Polo at the Encinal Tournament. The Girls and Boys Water Polo teams will be in the pool on Thursday at Granada, while the Girls Volleyball team has a pivotal week which of EBAL action before them as they travel to face Monte Vista today before returning home to host Amador Valley on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:30. Dublin’s Volleyball team posted an upset win over the Dons earlier this season, and if the Gaels are able to win one or both of their matches it will go a long way towards securing a potential North Coast Section playoff berth. The Gaels also added a tournament against Livermore this Saturday, October 5th to their schedule, and an impressive showing there could also bolster their playoff changes.

Other teams in action this week include Girls Flag Football at San Ramon Valley tonight, with a start time pushed back to 7:30. The Cross Country team will also be competing this Saturday, October 5th at the Amanda Garcia Memorial Invitational at Atwater High School.
