Football Wins EBAL Opener, Golf Wins Tourney, Tennis on a Roll, Senior Nights, and Much More!

It’s been a successful week for Dublin High’s athletic teams, with several teams achieving milestones and memorable victories.

The Dublin High School Varsity Football team defeated Foothill for the first time in at least 30 years, going on the road to defeat the Falcons 18-14. in its East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) opener. Rome Raymore scored on a 55-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the Gaels on the board first. Andre Armendariz rushed in a 2-yard score, and Ethan Kennedy took a pick-six to the house in the second quarter, giving Dublin an 18-0 lead.

Foothill proceeded to score a touchdown at the end of the first half and early in the 3rd quarter to pull within 4 points seemingly gaining the games momentum. However, the Gaels’ defense stiffened the rest of the way, and even withstood a late drive which saw the Falcons drive to the Gaels’ 11-yard line in the game’s final minutes to preserve the win.

Dublin has a pivotal game this Friday, October 18th where it takes on Granada. In addition to it being the annual Homecoming contest, the game will have bearing on the final EBAL Valley Division standings and will go a long way towards determining who claims the title. Admission is free to all athletic events with a DHS Digital Sports pass and/or an ASB sticker. For those purchasing tickets, the Dublin High School GoFan page for all events is here. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior-citizens attending Friday night’s JV/Varsity doubleheader. For those unable to attend, the games will be live-streamed on the Dublin High Athletics YouTube channel “Dublin Gaels Live.”

Another team that took a giant step in the past week towards winning a league title is the Varsity Girls Tennis team. The Gaels completed a sweep over California by defeating the Grizzlies 7-2, and proceeded to defeat San Ramon Valley by the same margin on Monday to improve to 5-1 in EBAL. If the Gaels can go on the road to defeat the Wolves again on Thursday, October 17th, it will have swept the season series against its top rivals in the Valley Division and be well positioned for its second straight league title.

Speaking of titles, for the 3rd year in a row, the Varsity Girls Golf team came away with a 1st place finish at the Lone Tree Invitational in Antioch. The Gaels shot a 436 as a team, with Callie McLaughlin finishing with the tournament’s low score of 73 followed by teammate Chloe Giang who finished with a 77.

In other highlights from the past week, the Boys and Girls Water Polo teams swept Irvington to cap a successful Senior Night. The Girls won 15-7 while the Boys won 16-3 in front of a large crowd at The Wave Aquatics Complex which celebrated four seniors which played a founding role in the program’s inception. The Girls Flag Football team also posted its first win of the season 47-6 over Summit Shasta, the Girls Volleyball team inched closer to a possible North Coast Section playoff berth after going 3-1 in the Livermore Tournament and defeating the Cowboys in EBAL action, and the Cross Country team posted some excellent results at the Amanda Garcia Memorial Invitational in Atwater.
