It has been another busy week for Dublin High School Athletics, as several programs wrapped up their seasons while others are making their final postseason push.
One of the biggest milestones was accomplished by the Girls Water Polo program, as the Gaels notched its first-ever East Bay Athletic League victory. Dublin defeated Dougherty Valley 5-3 in the season finale to finish the season on a high note and set the stage for future success. Considering that the Gaels only will lose 2 seniors, combined with the fact that the squad had narrow losses to multiple North Coast Section playoff teams, there is a distinct possibility that Dublin could earn its first NCS appearance next season.
In addition to Girls Water Polo, other Dublin teams had season finales or are gearing up for one against the Gaels’ traditional rival Dougherty Valley. The Boys Water Polo team and Girls Flag Football team each lost on the road to the Wildcats to conclude their season, while the Varsity Football team is looking to hold on to the Shelale with a win at Dougherty Valley on Friday, November 8th at 7:15. With a victory, there is a good chance that the Gaels will earn a bid to the NCS Division 3 playoffs.
Another team which wrapped up its season this week was the Varsity Girls Golf team. The Gaels shot a 441 as a team and finished in 6th place in the entire North Coast Section at Monday’s Division 1 tournament at the Paradise Valley Golf Course. Callie McLaughlin led the Gaels with a 75, a mere 3 strokes shy of a qualifying mark for the CIF Northern California tournament.
Two other teams who are just beginning their postseason journey are the Varsity Girls Tennis team and the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams. Both programs will be competing in EBAL Championship events this week, with the tennis team competing in the Singles/Doubles tournaments at the Club in Livermore today (Thursday, November 7th) and tomorrow (Friday, November 8th) while the Cross Country team will be running at Newhall Park on Saturday. This week’s EBAL competitions for Girls Tennis and Cross Country will not be the end for either team, as both are looking at advancing to NCS and possibly even California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) events in the coming weeks.
For Tennis, the Gaels have already earned an automatic bid into the NCS Team Tennis Championships next week, and depending upon the performance at both the EBAL Singles/Doubles Championships as well as NCS Team Tennis can determine individual and team qualifiers for CIF events. For Cross Country, potential berths to the CIF State Meet will be on the line when they run at Hayward High School in the NCS Championships on Saturday, November 23rd.
