After the first weeks of the basketball season, both our Boys and Girls Basketball programs are off to fantastic starts.
The Boys Basketball team opened its season with a dramatic 57-55 victory on its home court in the prestigious NorCal Tip-Off Classic over Destiny Christian, one of the region’s top teams. Dublin had a double-digit lead throughout the first half and most of the third quarter before a Destiny Christian run put them on top 52-49 midway through the fourth quarter. From that point the Gaels defense stiffened and Dublin got some big buckets down the stretch from Cameron Anderson, including one with under a minute to go when he scored to put the team up for good 56-54.
Anderson finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and was awarded Player of the Game honors by the media and scouts in attendance. However, the play of the game came from Jaiden Jones, as he made a block in the final seconds to seal the victory.
After defeating Hayward in its next contest, Dublin traveled to Napa to compete in their tournament. The Gaels defeated Santa Rosa in the opener and then beat the host Grizzlies to advance to the championship game against another Grizzlies squad – East Bay Athletic League rival California High School. Dublin’s defense came up big in that matchup, as the Gaels prevailed 52-42 to win the tournament championship and improve to 5-0 overall on the season.
In Girls Basketball, Dublin traveled up to Napa to face Vintage High School in its opener. Despite being short-handed with injuries while also awaiting some transfers to gain eligibility, the Gaels came away with a convincing 62-20 win to start the season on a high note.
The next game for the Dublin High Varsity Girls Basketball team will be this Wednesday, December 11th at 7:00 when it has its home opener against West High School of Tracy. The Boys team will be competing next at the Washington High School tournament in Fremont, opening up against Mission San Jose on Thursday at 3:30
