For the 8th consecutive season, the Dublin High School Varsity Boys Basketball won the Don Nelson Classic, a 3-day tournament it has hosted annually since 2005 (with the exception of 2020 due to COVID).
In this year’s tournament final, the Gaels defeated East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) rival Foothill by a score of 59-35. Foothill kept things close for much of the first half and were trailing just 26-20 before Dublin went on a 7-0 run to close the half and go up 33-20 at the break. Dublin held a 42-26 advantage at the conclusion of the 3rd quarter before going on a 12-1 run to stat the 4th and put the game away.
Cameron Anderson led a balanced scoring attack that saw four Dublin players end up in double figures by scoring 17 points. Ramir Raymore scored 12 points, Jaiden Jones added 11 points, and Jordan Morganstein finished with 10 points to fuel the victory. Anderson finished as the Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Jones and Miles Pollard made the All Tournament team.
The Gaels are now 11-0 overall on the season, and the undefeated mark caps a remarkable run by Dublin’s Varsity teams which has seen all of them heading into Winter Break without suffering any defeats (Girls Basketball 4-0, Girls Soccer 3-0, Boys Soccer 1-0-4).
The schedule gets a lot tougher for the Varsity Boys Basketball team next week though, as the Gaels will be traveling to La Verne on Christmas day to get set for another appearance in the Gold Division of the prestigious Classic at Damien. Dublin will open up against one of the state’s perennial powerhouses in Etiwanda High School on December 26th at 7:30
