Girls Basketball to Host West Coast Jamboree Final, Boys Basketball Improves to 13-1

Dublin’s basketball teams continued their blistering start to the 2024-2025 season, with two teams advancing to tournament championship games on Monday with two others appearing in prominent consolation finals.

For the first time ever, the Varsity Girls Basketball team is poised to win its division of the West Coast Jamboree on its home court. After defeating Sacramento 75-43 in Saturday’s Pearl Division Semifinal game, the Gaels have advance to the championship game against Watsonville on Monday, December 30th at 4:30 in the Sports Complex. Dublin also remains unbeaten on the season at 6-0 overall.

The Gaels got off to a fast start against the Dragons in Saturday’s win, scoring 28 points in the 1st quarter as they repeatedly found ways to beat Sacramento’s full-court press. Addison Leomiti was on fire to pace the Gaels’ early attack, as she hit three 3-pointers in the opening quarter. Dublin led 42-25 at halftime before dominating the 3rd quarter by outscoring the Dragons 20-3 to put the game out of reach.

Leomiti finished in double figures for the second straight game with 14 points, while Gaia Lembo led all scorers in both tournament games after finishing with 20 points on Saturday to go with a game-high 16 points in Friday’s win against Sonoma Valley. Bhagya Gajula also finished in double-figures on Saturday with 16 points.

While the Varsity Girls team is enjoying success on their home floor, the Varsity Boys Basketball team is having tremendous success hundreds of miles away in The Classic at Damien in Southern California. After splitting their first two Gold Division contests, Dublin overcame a 43-40 deficit after three quarters to outscore Village Christian 20-12 in the 4th quarter to come away with a 60-55 victory and improve to 13-1 overall on the season. The Gaels are looking to finish the grueling tournament against some of the West Coast’s top teams, as a win on Monday against Rolling Hills Prep (3:30) will complete Dublin’s best performance in the Classic at Damien by finishing 3-1 in the tourney.

In other tournament action, the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team will have the opportunity to win the San Ramon Valley Tournament after defeating Bellarmine in the Semifinals. The Gaels will face the host Wolves at 6:30. Meanwhile, the Freshmen Boys Basketball team will be playing for 3rd place in the Dougherty Valley Tournament as they square off against California at 6:00 on Monday.
