The Dublin High School Varsity Boys Basketball team had one if its most successful weeks of the season, defeating Foothill 73-46 in front of a packed student section on “Silent Night” last Friday before withstanding a late run by Monterey Trail to win 54-50 the following night at San Marin.
Jaiden Jones had 15 points, Cameron Anderson totaled 12 points, and Jordan Morganstein added 11 to lead a balanced scoring attack against the Falcons. As part of the Silent Night tradition, the crowd remained quiet until the Gaels scored its 10th point before erupting into pandemonium the rest of the evening. The game was tight until the final moments of the first quarter when the Gaels went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. Dublin outscored Foothill 27-10 in the second quarter and remained in control the rest of the way.
The Dublin Varsity Girls Basketball also defeated the Falcons on Friday night, parlaying a 29-14 advantage in the 2nd quarter to a 60-31 win improving to 2-1 in the East Bay Athletic League. Despite losing the following night to San Marin, the Gaels are still 13-2 overall on the season.
Meanwhile, after their two wins last week, the Varsity Boys Basketball team is now 18-2 overall and 2-1 in EBAL. Dublin has a pivotal game at De La Salle on Tuesday night before returning home to face Monte Vista on Friday, January 24th.
The other main highlight on campus this week is Wrestling, as the Gaels will be set to host Senior Night on Wednesday, January 22nd against Amador Valley (7:00). There are 10 seniors (boys and girls) in total who will be honored, but there are also several younger wrestlers as well who will be taking the mat who have a chance to make a run at the State tournament.
One of those freshmen is Lytning Hazen, who followed up his 108-pound weight class championship at the Liberty Lou Bronzan wrestling tournament where he won over Antonia Garaventa (junior at Franklin High School rank 37th in state and 1st in NCS) with winning the championship at the San Ramon wrestling tournament where he received Outstanding Light Weight Wrestler award. He pinned three opponents to wrestle Aiden Calvert (junior at Franklin High School record 17-5 and rank 37th in state) in the championship winning 4-2. Lytning is currently ranked 38th in the state and 2nd in NCS with a current record of 18-4.
