This promises to be one of the most exciting weeks of the school year for Dublin High School Athletics, as 3 of its teams will be celebrating Senior Nights in contests that all have postseason implications. In addition, the Varsity Boys Basketball team will be hosting Dougherty Valley on Friday night in the annual rivalry game, something it only has the opportunity to do every other year now with the new East Bay Athletic League format (i. single round).
The action starts on Tuesday, February 4th as Dublin’s Varsity Boys Soccer (5-6-5) team hosts San Ramon Valley (10-6-2). Senior festivities will take place immediately following the conclusion of the Junior Varsity match between 5:45-6:00, with the Varsity kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. For the Gaels to earn an NCS playoff spot, it is pivotal to get a win against the Wolves, and can do no worse than securing a tie.
On Thursday, February 6th it will be the Varsity Girls’ Soccer team’s turn to honor its seniors before their regular season finale against Dougherty Valley. Similar to the boys, the girls’ seniors will be honored between 5:45-6:00 and the match starts at 6:30. The Gaels need a win against the Wildcats to solidify their NCS berth, as they currently sit at 6-4-2 overall while needing to avoid the worst possible scenario of ending the year with two losses AND still qualifying for the EBAL playoffs where they could fall below .500 and miss the postseason. A victory (or tie) on Senior Night assures the Gaels of a winning record regardless (as does a win or tie at San Ramon Valley on Tuesday).
Although the Varsity Boys Basketball team already had its Senior Night, the Gaels are still anticipated to have its largest crowd of the season on Friday night (February 7th) as it hosts Dougherty Valley. Fans are strongly encouraged to get their tickets ahead of time, as a sellout is highly likely and tickets are not expected to be available at the door. For students with Dublin High ASB stickers, the Leadership class will be coordinating the distribution of tickets. All others need to purchase them ahead of time on the Dublin High GoFan page.
The exciting week of action concludes on Saturday, February 8th as the Varsity Girls Basketball team hosts its Senior Day against Kimball High School. Tipoff is at 3:00 while the celebration of seniors will happen between 2:30-2:45 following the JV game. There will also be a special joint halftime performance with the Dublin High Dance team and kids they host from throughout the community who participate in their clinic. The Gaels are poised to finish with one of its best regular season records in its distinguished history, and Saturday’s home finale will be a great tune-up for the EBAL and NCS playoffs.
