Big Wins for Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball Opens up EBAL Playoffs at Home TONIGHT

The Dublin High Varsity Boys Basketball team concluded its regular season in dramatic fashion with a 64-61 victory over Dougherty Valley in front of a raucous capacity crowd in the Sports Complex on February 7th.

Dublin and Dougherty Valley traded baskets for much of the first half, playing to a 31-31 tie at the break. The Gaels then played one of their best quarters of the entire season, jumping out to a 55-40 lead late in the period and eventually taking an 11-point lead into the final period. Jaiden Jones was instrumental in the run, scoring 11 of his 16 points to fuel the run.

Dougherty Valley stormed back in the 4th quarter, eventually cutting Dublin’s seemingly insurmountable lead to just 1 point on two occasions before the Gaels were able to secure the win. Miles Pollard led Dublin with 18 points, while Cameron Anderson contributed 10 points to help the Gaels conclude the regular season with a mark of 22-4.

The Gaels followed the win over the Wildcats with a 62-48 win over Foothill in their opening game of the East Bay Athletic League tournament. Ramir Raymore helped Dublin build an early lead after scoring 13 points in the first quarter, while Jones took charge in the second half to lead all scorers with 19 points.

Dublin now travels to face De La Salle TONIGHT at 7:00 in the next round of the EBAL playoffs. The Gaels lost to the Spartans 53-49 in their only encounter this season. If Dublin prevails they will go on the road to face San Ramon Valley on Thursday, February 13th.

The Dublin High Varsity Girls Basketball team will also go on the road to face the Wolves tomorrow night if it can beat Granada in their opening round of the EBAL Playoffs at home TONIGHT at 7:00. The Gaels played one of their best games of the season to defeat the Matadors 69-42 earlier this season, but will face a hungry Granada squad that needs a win to reach the qualifying mark to earn a North Coast Section playoff berth.

The Gaels are coming into the postseason with some momentum after finishing the regular season with three consecutive victories to end the regular season with a 21-5 overall record. Addison Leomiti had a massive game in Dublin’s final EBAL contest at Dougherty Valley, exploding for 35 points which included a bucket in the final seconds to force overtime en route to a 65-56 win. Dublin proceeded to defeat Kimball on their Senior Day and season finale 72-24.
