The Dublin High Varsity Girls Basketball team got off to a fast start in their East Bay Athletic League playoff game against Granada and never looked back, defeating Granada 68-44 on their home court on Wednesday night.
The Gaels were particularly explosive in the 1st quarter, scoring 25 points and opening up a 14-point advantage. Dublin’s lead climbed to 37-14 midway through the 2nd quarter before the Matadors would go on a 9-0 to close the half and trail 37-23 at the break. Dublin stretched its lead to 18 points in the 3rd quarter, and made a run at the start of the 4th to put the game away. Addison Leomiti had another prolific scoring night, finishing with a game-high 27 points.
With the victory, Dublin improved its overall record to 22-5. The Gaels will travel to face San Ramon Valley on Thursday night (February 13th) at 5:30 in the EBAL Semifinals. Win or lose against the Wolves, it appears based on Maxpreps rankings that the Gaels have earned a seed in the top 8 of the North Coast Section Division 1 playoffs. Brackets will be released on Sunday, but it is likely that the Gaels will have a home game next Tuesday, February 18th.
In Boys Basketball action, Dublin held a 13-8 lead over De La Salle after the 1st quarter, but ran out of steam in the second half as they fell to the Spartans 54-41. Dublin finishes its regular season with a record of 23-5 overall, and is likely to earn a spot in the prestigious NCS Open Division. The Gaels entered the night ranked 4th, and if it remains in the top 6 after the regular season concludes on Saturday will automatically earn a berth into the Open (ensuring they will have a berth in in the CIF State Tournament for the 8th consecutive season, which is an ongoing school record.
