This weekend proved to be one of the most successful of the year for the Dublin High School Athletic program, as multiple individuals and teams earned North Coast Section berths. The action starts TONIGHT (Tuesday, February 18th) at 7:00 as the Varsity Girls Basketball team and the Varsity Girls Soccer team will be simultaneously hosting 1st round NCS action.
After finishing the season 22-6, the Girls Basketball team earned the 8th seed in Division 1 and will be hosting Northgate. This is the first 20-win season for Dublin’s Girls Basketball team since 2018. It is also the 20th time in the past 21 seasons in which the program has qualified for NCS, giving the program the distinction as one of the most consistently successful in school history. The Gaels finished the East Bay Athletic League season in 4th place and won its opening game in the league playoffs over Granada.
With a victory, the Gaels will go on the road to face #1 seed Clayton Valley Charter. Despite the challenge of facing the top seed, Dublin actually defeated Clayton Valley 51-42 on its home floor in a nonleague matchup last season.
Meanwhile the Girls Soccer team compiled a record of 7-5-4 to earn the 7th seed in Division 2 and a 1st round matchup against SF University. For the Girls Soccer team, this is the 3rd time in the past 4 years in which it has qualified for NCS. They likely earned the home match in the opening round after going on the road to defeat California 1-0 in their season finale, a nonleague match added in the final week in what proved to be a successful attempt to move up in the Maxpreps rankings.
Coming off a season in which it won its first round match as the #12 seed in Division 1, the new competitive equity model adopted by the NCS puts less of an emphasis on traditional enrollment-based divisions and goes off of the rankings, giving Dublin an opportunity to earn a higher seed and a greater probability of making a postseason run in Division 2 than they might have had in Division 1. If Dublin prevails on Tuesday, it will likely be going on the road on Friday to face #2 seed Branson.
