The Spring athletic season is off to a fast start with multiple teams having unprecedented success in the opening month. This upcoming week will also feature one of Dublin High School’s signature events of the year, as well as the first Senior Night.
The featured events highlighting a busy week for Dublin High Athletics include the Dublin Distance Fiesta, which is taking place in the Stadium on Friday, March 21st from 2:00-10:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 22nd from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Thousands of the West Coast’s fastest distance runners will descend upon Dublin High School to compete in one of the largest high school track events in the country. Two-day passes are selling for $21 while one-day passes are $14 each.
In addition, the Stunt team will be the first spring sport to have its Senior Night, as it is Dublin High’s turn to host the rotating East Bay Athletic League competitions in its Sports Complex. There will be five contests in total starting at 4:00, but the Dublin High seniors will be honored at 6:00 before its 6:30 matchup against Foothill. The Stunt team has won its first two games of the year, defeating Dougherty Valley for the first time ever by a score of 22-7 in its opener and then squeaking past Carondelet 14-12 on Friday.
Another Dublin High team that is off to a blistering start is the Baseball squad, which improved to 8-0 overall with wins last week against Liberty (4-1) and Wilcox (1-0). The Gaels have two home EBAL games this week, as they take on California on Wednesday, March 19th and San Ramon Valley on Friday, March 21st. Both games start at 4:00, followed by a nonleague matinee the following morning (Saturday, March 22nd) at home against Mountain House (11:00 a.m.).
The Varsity Boys Volleyball team is also starting the season in stellar fashion, as they improved to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in EBAL following a 5-set win last week against perennial powerhouse Amador Valley. The Gaels will travel to face Monte Vista on Tuesday before returning home to host defending EBAL and NCS champions Foothill on Thursday, March 20th at 6:00 in an early season test.
In other home events this week, Boys Lacrosse takes on Livermore tomorrow (Tuesday, March 18th) at 7:00, and Softball will be hosting Amador Valley on Thursday, March 20th at 4:00. Each team had their contests rained out last week. Meanwhile, the Boys Golf team will be hosting De La Salle on its home course following a narrow 213-208 loss to Granada.
The Boys Tennis and Girls Lacrosse teams will both be on the road this week coming off of big wins to close out last week. The Tennis team notched its first win of the season by defeating Granada 8-1, while the Girls Lacrosse team defeated Bishop O’Dowd 21-8. Badminton will also be on the road at Quarry Lane on Thursday and Swim will be on the road at Foothill on Friday. Girls Beach Volleyball will be off as it prepares to open EBAL next week.
