The first Senior Night of the spring athletic season is officially in the books, as the Stunt Cheer team defeated Foothill 20-7 in front of a boisterous home crowd last Tuesday night. It was the 3rd consecutive win in a row to start the season, as Dublin heads into the week with important contests against two of the East Bay Athletic League’s traditional powerhouses – California and Amador Valley. With continued improvement, the Gaels have the potential of finishing in the top 4 of EBAL and earning a playoff bid.
Two other teams that appear to be postseason locks based on their fast start are the Varsity Boys Volleyball and Baseball teams.
The Boys Volleyball team improved its record to a stellar 14-1 mark after two more EBAL victories last week. Dublin defeated California in straight sets before defeating the defending North Coast Section and EBAL champions Foothill in 4 sets to remain undefeated in league play at 4-0. Dublin has a big test at De La Salle this Tuesday before returning home on Thursday, March 27th (6:00) to face an Amador Valley squad it defeated in 5 sets earlier this season. The Junior Varsity team also remained unbeaten at the midway point of the season.
Dublin High School’s Baseball program is similarly off to an excellent start at all 3 levels. After an 8-0 start, the Varsity team was handed its first loss in extra innings to California on Tuesday before rallying back later in the week to defeat San Ramon Valley and Mountain House to improve to 10-1 overall. In addition, both the Junior Varsity and Freshmen teams only have 1 loss apiece, as they have started the seasons with records of 8-1 and 7-1 respectively. The Gaels will host De La Salle in a critical test on Wednesday before traveling to face Monte Vista on Friday.
History also will be made this week as the Girls Beach Volleyball program hosts its first ever official East Bay Athletic League match on Thursday at Fallon Sports Park (4:00). Speaking of history, that was also made this past weekend at the Dublin Distance Fiesta, where the campus hosted 225 schools and 4,040 athletes in a two-day meet spanning more than 24 hours. The number of participants, duration of the event, and gate revenue all shattered records. Dublin’s Track and Field team will be back in action hosting a Tri-Meet against Livermore and California this Wednesday, March 26th at 4:00.
In other highlights of home events for the upcoming week, the Swim program will be the 2nd of 12 spring sports to celebrate Senior Day, as it hosts Amador Valley at The Wave Aquatics Complex on Friday, March 28th at 4:00. Dublin’s Softball and Boys Tennis teams will also be at home this week, as each team has home contests at 4:00 on Thursday, March 27th against Livermore and Foothill respectively. The Boys Lacrosse team caps the week of home contests as it host Amador Valley on Friday, March 28th at 7:00.
Coming off of an impressive 15-8 win at Berkeley, the Girls Lacrosse team will open up EBAL action this week at Granada on Thursday, March 27th. The Badminton team also has its league opener this Thursday at Clayton Valley, which is a member of an EBAL supplemental league which also includes Emerald and Quarry Lane. After several narrow EBAL losses against stiff competition, the Boys Golf team is looking for better fortunes at the San Leandro Spring Classic at Monarch Bay on Monday.
