Stunt Claims 1st Ever Tournament Title, Track Milestones, and Gritty Win for Boys Volleyball

The Dublin High School Stunt Cheer team made history this week by winning its first ever tournament title against stiff competition at West Park High School in Roseville. Two of Dublin’s 3 contests went to overtime, as the Gaels lost to Granite Bay 14-16 but edged out the host West Park 19-18. Dublin also defeated Merced 20-0 and ended up winning a 3-way tiebreaker to take home the championship trophy.

At 6-4 overall, Dublin can finish no worse than with a .500 winning percentage this season, and if it wins at least one of its final 2 games against Livermore or Monte Vista will claim its first ever winning season since the program’s inception in 2015.

Milestones were also set by the Dublin Track and Field team at its most recent Tri-Meet on Wednesday, April 2nd. Emma San set a school record with a 17’10 mark in the Long Jump, surpassing the previous record set by Naomi Chin in 2018. San’s mark is over 1 foot longer than any recorded by East Bay Athletic League teams this season, and is also the 4th best in the North Coast Section.

Dublin’s Girls 4×100 team (Josephine Bayer – Naeemah Grant-Gurganious – Aaliyah Hasni – Kayci Phillips) also broke the school record earlier this year with a time of 47.69 (old record 48.69 in ’23 Leila Champion-Angelica Gomes-Aaliyah Hasni-Hannah Doria).

In other highlights from late last week, the Boys Volleyball team battled for a 5-set win over San Ramon Valley last Thursday. The Wolves came into the match at 6-1 in EBAL and ahead of the Gaels in both the EBAL standings and Maxpreps rankings, so the victory will definitely have a positive impact towards NCS seeding and keeps the Gaels EBAL playoff hopes alive. Dublin is closely bunched in the Valley Division standings with Foothill, Amador Valley, and Granada, with the top two advancing. Regardless of whether Dublin makes the EBAL playoffs, at 15-4 overall the Gaels are still projected to be a top 8 seed in the NCS Division 1 tournament with a chance to make a title run.

Although there isn’t going to be an NCS Tournament for Girls Beach Volleyball in the first year the sport has been elevated above club status for interscholastic competition, Dublin’s squad is poised to compete for an EBAL title. The Gaels improved to 3-0 overall following a 3-0 win over Dougherty Valley on the Thursday before Break. Dublin has yet to drop a single match this season (or in the program’s history!).

The Dublin Badminton team was another team in action on the first Saturday of Spring Break, competing in the inaugural Emerald Cup. Elisha Alvarez and Sunny Kim took 2nd place in the Girls Doubles draw, capping a week in which the Gaels also defeated De La Salle/Carondelet to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Now that Dublin High is on Spring Break, athletic events and practices will be limited. The only teams in action are the Varsity Baseball and Track and Field teams. The Baseball team will be competing in the Alhambra Easter Tournament starting TODAY (Monday, April 7th) against Northgate (1:00), while the Track and Field team will be competing in various invitationals on April 11-12. Other teams are having 2-3 light practices over Spring Break or are taking the week off entirely.
