The Dublin High Girls Lacrosse season has continued their best season in school history by making it through the first half of the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Valley Division schedule without a loss.
Dublin completed the first half sweep after a showdown with Dougherty Valley at home on Tuesday. Dougherty Valley was also unbeaten through the first half of EBAL heading into the contest, but the Gaels prevailed 13-6. The Gaels proceeded to close out the week with a 13-4 nonleague win over Las Lomas to improve to 9-4 overall on the season. Dublin’s victory over the Knights clinched a North Coast Section (NCS) playoff berth, making this the first postseason appearance for the program since 2016.
Girls Lacrosse wasn’t the only team achieving milestones this week, as the Stunt Cheer program also made some history of its own. For the first time since the program’s inception, Dublin finished the regular season with a winning record following its 18-16 victory over Livermore on Tuesday night. The Gaels ended with an overall record of 7-5 following a competitive showing in a loss to Monte Vista in the finale. There are only 8 teams in all of NCS who qualify for the postseason so the season has come to a close, but it was still the most successful and exciting year the program has ever experienced.
Another team in the midst of a successful and exciting season is the Baseball program. On Tuesday, the Gaels overcame an early 0-5 deficit to defeat Livermore 6-5 in 9 innings. Matthew Phelps and Kaleb McElmurry managed to keep the Cowboys scoreless over the final 7 innings while Dublin evened up the contest. Ryan Gonzalez proceeded to get a triple in the 9th inning while Kolby Breining’s sacrifice fly brought him home to earn the victory.
The following day, it was Dalton Doyle pitching a 1-hit gem to blank Foothill 1-0. Phelps and Gonzalez once again played pivotal roles, as a double by Phelps in the bottom of the 5th knocked in Gonzalez to score what proved to be the winning run. Despite losing to the Falcons 8-7 to end the week, Dublin still showed resiliency by battling back from an early 0-4 deficit to nearly come away with the win. The Gaels finished the week at 16-3 overall, and currently sit as the 5th-ranked team in NCS according to the Maxpreps rankins which will ultimately determine playoff seeding.
In other highlights from the week, Dublin’s Volleyball team had a hard-fought 5 set win over Livermore and finished the week with a 16-6 record overall. More school records were set in Girls Track and Field, the Softball team exploded for 15 runs only to lose a wild affair at Carondelet, while Badminton notched an 11-6 home win over Monte Vista.
