This promises to be another exciting and consequential weekend for Dublin High Athletics, with multiple Senior Day celebrations, East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) championship events, and history in the making.
The action starts this morning with the EBAL Swim Championships at Dougherty Valley and the continuation of the EBAL Boys Tennis Tournament at the Club at Livermore. However, the action on campus begins at 3:15 when Dublin High School’s 13 seniors on the Varsity Baseball team are being honored prior to the start of their home game at 4:00 against Granada. Dublin is currently 16-6 overall and a victory over the defending CIF NorCal champion Matadors will go a long way towards securing a home game in the 1st round of the North Coast Section playoffs.
Following the Baseball game, the action on campus continues as the Dublin Boys Lacrosse team will conclude its season with a home against Dougherty Valley at 7:00 p.m. The Gaels had a narrow 7-6 win over the Wildcats in their first encounter earlier this season, so it promises to be an exciting game.
Yet the potential history-making event is taking place at Dougherty Valley High School, as the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team is looking to earn its first ever league title as it takes on the Wildcats at 7:00. The program has already made history by achieving several milestones this season, including its first ever winning season and most total victories (currently 13-4). In addition, they have already clinched no worse than a co-EBAL title following their 13-8 win at Foothill on Tuesday.
With a win on Friday, the Gaels will earn the league championship outright and finish the league season with an undefeated record, which would be two additional unprecedented accomplishments. Dublin defeated Dougherty Valley in their first encounter earlier this season 13-6, but the Wildcats come into tonight’s contest just one game back in the EBAL Valley Division standings at 6-1 in league play. If the Wildcats win, they would pull into a tie with the Gaels but would earn the tiebreaker and official designation as champions for purposes of NCS seeding based on winning the most recent game.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the Dublin Badminton team will be competing in the EBAL Championships starting at 9:00 a.m. at Monte Vista High School. The top 6 competitors in each of the event’s 5 categories (Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, and Mixed Doubles) all will secure bids for the NCS Tournament next weekend, and it is anticipated that several Dublin student-athletes will be among the qualifiers.
The Track and Field team will also be in action on Saturday, as it hosts the final event of the regular season with the Last Chance PR Invitational. The Meet starts at 10:00 a.m., and it is also Senior Day for the program, with the ceremony taking place following the conclusion of the event sometime between 1:00-2:00 in the afternoon.
In other action this week, the Boys Volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 win at Dougherty Valley. The Gaels finish the year with an overall record of 18-7, and are hoping to earn a home match in the first round of the NCS playoffs when the brackets are announced on Sunday. The Girls Beach Volleyball team also wrapped up its inaugural season by finishing with a record of 8-2 (EBAL postseason details still TBD), Aditya Das appears to have earned a spot in the NCS Division 2 tournament (draw announced May 8th), and the Softball team had another high-scoring affair before falling to perennial power Granada on the road by a score of 10-8.
