The Dublin High Varsity Baseball and Boys Golf teams appeared in North Coast Section (NCS) Championship to cap their respective seasons.
For Boys Golf, the action took place on Monday at the Rancho Solano Golf Course, as Aditya Das shot a 74 in the NCS Division 1 tournament, finishing just 3 strokes shy of earning a berth in the CIF Northern California Championships. Das will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall and will be attempting to walk on to the team after a stellar senior season which saw him finish almost every match and tournament as the team’s top performer.
It was also a stellar season for the Varsity Baseball team, as they finished the regular season with their best record since 2006 at 17-7 overall. The Gaels also earned their first NCS home playoff game since 2012, in addition to their 4th consecutive NCS playoff appearance.
The Gaels hosted 2023 Division 2 NCS champion Casa Grande in the 1st round contest on Tuesday. Despite getting runners on base in each of the first 5 innings, the Gaels were unable to get any runs across against the Gauchos’ St. Mary’s College bound starting pitcher. Casa Grande jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, and slowly stretched their lead throughout the game to finish with a 5-0 victory. The Gauchos showed further evidence of their team’s strength by defeating the defending CIF/Northern California champion and this year’s EBAL champion and top NCS seed Granada in the next round.
Despite the Varsity team’s loss in NCS, there are several key returners which should power a return to prominence next season. In addition, the Junior Varsity team reached the rare 20-win plateau, finishing 20-3-1 overall (11-1-1 in EBAL). The Freshmen team also had tremendous success with a 16-8 record. It is believed that this year likely saw the best combined record for all 3 levels in school history, meaning that better days are likely ahead for one of the school’s most high-profile programs.
