Dublin High School Athletics is pleased to announce that Tony Castillo has been hired as its new Head Varsity Boys Soccer Coach.
Tony is truly a hometown product, growing up in Dublin and playing soccer for the Dublin United Soccer League and attending school in the Dublin Unified School District. Castillo played soccer all four years at Dublin High School as a member of the Class of 2017. During Tony’s time in the program, the Gaels were North Coast Section champions,
After graduating from Dublin High School, Castillo had the honor of being able to come back and coach for the soccer club he played – Dublin United Soccer League where he has coached for more than 6 years. He received his US Soccer grassroots licenses as well as his D license and is a candidate for a C license this spring. Castillo had demonstrated success developing players at Dublin United coaching a variety of teams and levels.
Castillo came back to Dublin High School as an Assistant Coach in 2022 before being quickly elevated to the Head Junior Varsity Coaching position last year. Under Castillo’s leadership, the Gaels had a very successful season. Dublin finished with an overall mark of 11-2-4, including a 5-2-2 record in the extremely competitive East Bay Athletic League. The highlight of the season was a victory over De La Salle.
Following Coach Rob Olson’s departure to return to his native Ireland at the conclusion of this past season, Castillo has now quickly ascended to the Varsity Head Coaching position. Castillo’s selection was based upon his documented success and connections built with players and parents combined with his history, passion, and commitment to the Dublin community.
“This has become a huge goal of mine to be able to come back to the program I grew up and played in, to be able to give back and lead this next generation of young men. I strongly believe I’m a right fit to be able to bring the program back to what it once was. This past season was the first step towards the right direction and I would like to continue what was started,” Castillo said.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the Gaels finished 2025 just one win away from a North Coast Section berth at 6-7-8 overall. The Gaels had several close battles and were minutes away from ending the year with a qualifying .500 record,. With infusion of talent from Castillo’s JV team along with the anticipated contribution of returners, Dublin is looking to get back to the postseason in 2026.
